Port O’ Connor Fishing Report – July 1, 2015

Lots of freshwater in the bays but isolated pockets along Matagorda Island are holding good numbers of slot reds. The ticket is to follow the bait, set up a wade and start with Super Spook Jr. topwater plugs in Spectrum or bone. Once the topwater bite slows, switch over to swim baits. My favorite is a 3-1/2 inch Yum Money Minnow in white/chartreuse.
Live shrimp and croakers are good at the jetties fished in 14 to 18 feet of water. Remember this: The key to finding fish at the jetties is to move around a lot. The fish are there. You just have to find them.
Phil Brannon used a Money Minnows to catch these reds in three feet of water along Matagorda Island.
